For multiple reasons! Science has proven, children who read (or are read to) at least one book a day have a better opportunity to develop empathy, gain a deeper understanding of the world, and build strong relationships between child and caregiver. Reading also helps improve literacy skills, expands a child's vocabulary, helps them concentrate, and promotes higher levels of creativity and imagination. Equally important, children need to develop and grow their minds for social, emotional, and cognitive skill building. With a dual focus on early literacy and the 5 Basics, 1KTB4K give you the opportunity to help your little one prepare for school and life, as well as earn points toward getting free books!

Please do! Not only does repetition help your child's developmental, it also creates bonding opportunities. These conversation, cuddles, and times of play are the things that will not only help your child, you are creating lasting memories, over and over. Children need to develop and grow their minds for social, emotional, and cognitive skill building. How do we do this? Putting intention behind everyday things. Many of the things that embody the 5 Basic Principles caregivers do already, but not as intentionally as they might if they understood the potential impacts. Enter community partners, like daycares, community centers, and libraries! The purpose of The Basics initiative is to help community stakeholders and families with infants and toddlers tap into the power they have to shape children’s futures. The intention is families should have the information and support needed to make the most of the knowledge that contemporary science has made available.
