Botetourt County Welcomes DHCD to Talk About Broadband

Trucks installing broadband internet service in Botetourt County

On August 8, 2022,  Botetourt County was pleased to welcome visitors from the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) to visit with our team and our partners at Lumos to discuss the broadband build in Botetourt County.  The DHCD was able to see first hand a build that is taking place in the Hurd's garage area on Rt. 11 and on Goad Rd. that is in the Wheatland Rd. area of the county.

Thanks to the DHCD, we were able to secure funding from VATI grants(Virginia Telecommunication Initiative) that allows us to work with our internet providers in the county as they build connections that give our homes and businesses reliable internet coverage.

This has been a long time coming and we are getting so close to the dream of universal broadband coverage becoming a reality. There have been so many people that have worked very hard on this project. We appreciate the community's patience during the build which should be complete by the end of 2023/early 2024.

Botetourt is a huge county and there is ALOT of ground to cover! It's hard work that requires a lot of digging, laying cable, manual labor and connecting equipment and it doesn't happen overnight.  When you see a worker out in your neighborhood performing installs, make sure to tell them hi! We appreciate their diligent efforts!
