BOCO Broadband Update

76

Lumos is in the Buchanan Area making universal broadband coverage a reality for our residents and businesses! This work is being done as part of the Virginia Telecommunication Initiative 1(VATI1) Grant received in January, 2021 that is a partnership between Botetourt County, the state and Lumos.  This project consists of a 59 mile fiber broadband network service extension to 458 unserved addresses, including 30 businesses, located east of the Town of Fincastle and west/SW of the Town of Buchanan, VA including the Lithia, Springwood, and Wheatland communities of Botetourt County.  Neighbors in that area should be receiving notices from Lumos about construction in the area.  Work will also begin soon on the VATI2 grant that will serve 1,901 additional addresses in the county.

Lots of hard work and planning has gone into providing reliable internet coverage for our county and we are so happy to see this progress taking place! We also appreciate the patience that everyone has shown as this much needed utility is being made available to those that have been unserved or underserved.  This is just the beginning and we are excited to see what the future holds for our county!
