Virginia 250 - a Revolution of Ideas
Botetourt County is pleased to partner with the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission (VA250). VA250 was established by the General Assembly in 2020 and serves to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, the Revolutionary War, and the independence of the United States. In the Commonwealth of Virginia, one of the former colonies and future states, much of the nation's history took place. The primary goal of the Commission is to convene and facilitate a Commonwealth-wide commemoration and celebration, multi-faceted and inclusive of hundreds of partners and representatives of the wide array of histories, sites, stories, and communities that define Virginia.
You are invited to join us as we commemorate the American Revolution and come together to mark 250 years since the founding of a nation and our continuing march toward a more perfect Union. Our very own, Delegate Terry Austin, is helping to lead the charge to celebrate the VA250 that will take place in 2026. Learn more about VA250 by clicking here.
Botetourt has established a VA250 committee comprised of local historians, librarians, community partners, and citizens to plan events that will be happening in the county. The committee also adopted a VA250 resolution in 2022. Read the resolution by clicking here.
