Library Card
How do I get a library card?
Any VA resident of any age can apply for a free library card. Minors under age 18 require a parent or guardian's signature.
- Sign up for a temporary e-card. Once staff have reviewed your application you will be contacted with more information.
- A library card from Botetourt County gives you access to any Roanoke Valley Library. Drop by any Botetourt County Library location to upgrade your e-card to full access and receive a physical card.
- When you drop by, bring a valid form of photo ID and proof of address.
What types of photo ID and proof of address are OK?
If you have a current driver's license or state ID card listing your current address, that's all you need. Otherwise, bring one of each:
Photo ID - must list your full name | Proof of Address - must list your full name and physical address |
| Proof of address can be digital or paper. No PO Box addresses.

What do I get with my library card?
Thanks to membership in the Roanoke Valley Libraries consortium, all Botetourt County Libraries members have access to the shared collections of four library systems in Botetourt, Roanoke City, Roanoke County, and Salem. Request items from any of these libraries, and our couriers will deliver them to your preferred library location for pickup.
You also have access to the full range of services, resources, programs and more from Botetourt County Libraries. Explore our website or visit us to discover more!
How do I renew my library card?
Library accounts must be renewed every two years. Call or visit any library location. We'll ask a few questions to make sure your contact information is up-to-date, check your account for any issues, and you're good to go for another two years!
