Join the Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Library is a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization that supports library projects and programs.

What Friends do

  • Fundraising - primarily through used book sales and donations
  • Volunteer - help sort book donations, run sales or assist with special events
  • Ambassadors - spread the word about library resources and programs

Thanks to the Friends' support, the libraries have added new furniture, special book collections, cafes, and more. Friends also sponsor special presenters, such as author talks and Summer Learning Challenge performers.

How it works

The Friends of the Library, Inc. has four chapters associated with our four full-service locations. Each Friends chapter elects its own officers, which typically include a president, vice-president, treasurer and secretary. Learn more about each chapter: Blue Ridge, Buchanan, Eagle Rock and Fincastle

Members vary in their level of contribution. Some volunteer every week and attend monthly meetings, while others participate occasionally with special projects or events. Other members simply pay dues without further involvement. You decide how involved you want to be!

Used Book Sales

The Friends accept donations of gently used books, DVDs and CDs. All proceeds directly benefit library projects and programming.
